Netflix has released a poster and trailer for its upcoming zombie thriller series Betaal which follows a group of Indian police officers protecting their remote village against a 200-year-old British Indian army officer and his battalion of zombie redcoats.
A remote village becomes the theatre of a breathless battle when a two-century-old Betaal, a British Indian Army officer, and his battalion of zombie redcoats are unleashed. With Indian police pitted against the undead army, hapless villagers are trapped in a horrific, edge-of-your-seat conflict.
The Betaal trailer introduces the characters played by its lead cast: Vikram Sirohi (Viineet Kumar), DC “Ahu” Ahluwalia (Aahana Kumra), Commandant Tyagi (Suchitra Pillai), Jitendra Joshi (Sacred Games), and Puniya (Manjiri Pupala). It also establishes its premise: after a haunted Betaal Mountain is excavated to re-open a tunnel, a cursed two-century-old East India Company Colonel and his battalion of blood-thirsty zombie redcoats do battle with the villagers and the CIPD (Counter Insurgency Police Department).
Betaal is a production of Red Chillies, with Blumhouse Television, the TV division of Jason Blum’s Blumhouse, best known for Get Out, and Crazy Rich Asians-financier SK Global Entertainment as executive producers. Blumhouse was also behind Graham’s Ghoul. Red Chillies has previously given us the irresponsible Bard of Blood.
