Thrilled to announce this: THE WOODS. Netflix. Worldwide. June 12. Put it on your watchlist now
The six-part thriller is set in Poland across two time spans – 1994 and 2019 – and focuses on a Warsaw prosecutor who learns that his sister, who went missing more than two decades earlier, could still be alive.
The book’s synopsis reads: “Paul Copeland’s sister went missing 20 years ago. Now raising a daughter alone, Cope balances family life with a career as a prosecutor. But when a homicide victim is found with evidence linking him to Cope, the well-buried secrets of the past are threatening everything.

“Is this body one of the campers who disappeared with his sister? Could his sister be alive…? Confronting his past, Cope must decide what is better left hidden in the dark and what truths can be brought to light.”
Director Leszek Dawid told Deadline, “The Woods is a story full of secrets – a story you will want to follow. Try as hard as you might to bury unresolved issues from the past, but one day they will find their way back to you anyway.
“What I find fascinating is the way the film deals with the idea of a carefree adolescence. Looking back at the time in your life when you lived your most beautiful but, at the same time, your most atrocious experiences. Learning the truth. You cannot go any further without doing that.”
What is The Woods about?
The Woods is based on Coben’s crime novel of the same name and follows prosecutor Paweł Kopiński, whose sister went missing in the woods near her summer camp 25 years ago.
He still finds himself struggling with the loss, but when the body of a boy who had vanished with her is suddenly discovered, evidence emerges that she could still be alive.
Across the show’s six episodes, long-kept family secrets will be revealed and the truth could well tear Paweł’s life apart.
The series was shot on location in Poland and will be subtitled.
